(MUST be downloaded to your computer--NOT a web 2.0 tool)
A free podcasting tool that can be downloaded from the internet. Once you have created your podcast in Audacity, this tool allows you to export it as an MP3 file, which is a standard sound file compatable with most web 2.0 tools. Click the following to get step-by-step directions:

Steps for using Audacity: [Click the red X to close the window when done.]

Important Tips!
  • Allow the "music-only" track to play for at least 5-10 seconds before the voice track begins AND 5-10 seconds after the voice track ends. This will create a nice musical introduction and ending for your podcast. (use your shifter tool to move the voice track.)
  • Speak SLOWLY and CLEARLY (pronounce your words!). Wait at least 1 or 2 seconds (beats) between sentences. This will give your listener a chance to process (think about) what you are saying.
  • Use good reading expression! Change your voice to show emotion, excitement, seriousness, fear, etc. Do NOT read in a monotone, "robot" voice.
  • Don't be afaid to PAUSE for dramatic effect when appropriate!
  • PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE your script out loud BEFORE you start to record!!
